Through Engine, our professional development programme, New Art West Midlands are offering artists, curators and writers living in the West Midlands the opportunity to apply for micro bursaries.

Bursaries of up to £250 will be available towards the costs of, for example, research visits, attendance at exhibitions and conferences, travel and accommodation – activities aimed at artistic and professional development.

If you would like to apply for a micro bursary, please send an application to with ‘Micro Bursary’ in the subject line.

Your application should include your CV and a summary of no more than 300 words outlining what you plan to do, where, and how you feel the activity would help to support and develop your practice.

Please also submit 3 images of your work, your website address and an itemised budget for your proposed activity. Your application should be sent as a single PDF document.

Applications aim to support a wide variety of visual arts practice. Applications will be judged on the quality of the work and the impact the activity will have on your professional development.

If you are applying individually or in collaboration with other artists, curators or writers, a maximum of £250 can be applied for.

Applications are rolling. We will respond to applications within 1 month so please ensure your application is sent in good time.

Please note: Due to the overwhelming success of our Micro Bursaries to date, we will be pausing applications at the end of May 2017 in order to review and evaluate the opportunity. We expect they will be available again in Autumn 2017.
